"There is a sacredness in tears. They are not the mark of weakness, but of power. They speak more eloquently than ten thousand tongues. They are messengers of overwhelming grief... and unspeakable love.” - Washington Irving

Send-Off To Heaven

Ascension of Little Angel Marcus

Date: 17 March 2010
Venue: 2nd Floor C3 Events Resto, 18 Missouri Street, East Greenhills, San Juan City
Time: 3:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.

40 Days after our dear son grew his wings, Jhon and I celebrated his ascension into Heaven with close family and friends. About a week and a half before the scheduled date we were contemplating if we should keep the day simple and opt to hear Mass at the Powerplant Mall Chapel, or organize a simple event and invite a handful of people close to us to commemorate the day.

Still very much into our grief and struggling to live each day without him, planning an event proved to be quite grueling. Though a part of me kept on pushing to see the day. I felt a certain surge of energy that needed to be somehow released. I reiterated to Jhon how it felt like this was my way of mothering my Marcus. I needed to mother my child but all I had were empty arms. I could not nurture my son and care for him physically so I needed to channel my overwhelming love into something worthwhile.

Planning Marcus' Send-Off to Heaven gave me a sense of responsibility and task, something that probably simulates myself nurturing for my son. It was a struggle to get through each living day without him but it was something that we had to do for him.

To make his send-off more memorable to the family, Jhon and I wanted our Marcus to be remembered through prayer, hence, we had personalized rosary bracelets made and wrote special prayers for him printed as a prayer card for each family member.

To formally send our Marcus off to heaven, we prepared pearl white and blue balloons with silver strings for each one to release to the skies for our baby boy. A sweet poem we chose to attach on each balloon, and asked each one to write their own personal love note for Marcus.

And most importantly, we had Fr. Santhosh celebrate Holy Mass in honor of our baby and have God bless and welcome him on this special day.

To commemorate our son's Send-Off to Heaven, I made a slideshow of the pictures that were taken that special day. Thank you to Ate Belle for sharing her pictures as well.

As I eventually learned how to do digital scrapbooking to design my Marcus' blog, I put together these pictures and made an album from the event.

Project of love in progress... more pictures to come.
